" Highly Disappointed " (Ravesh)back

2004/12/12, 02:34, Ravesh:
Right, while this not normally my way, I think on this occassion I need to make my disappointment adundantly clear.
The way things are being run at the moment is SHOCKING. Correct me if I am wrong, but does your playerbase not deserve some kind of warning before drastic changes are made? Not only was there no detailed warning that I am aware of, there is still seemingly no news about it.
I vaguely recall mention that armours' up_to was changing, but the sheer extent, I could not have fathomed. More specifically though, I am talking about bark skin, which is now not worth even a tenth of it's manacost.

Today I had the displeasure of mobbing a newbie I was leading/teaching. Why? Because three meagre mobs that I could previously have dealt with in a heartbeat, took me to Bad. So I flee.. and my level 4 friend dies before he knows what hit him.
Had I decided to do a mob such as the gaunt beast, I would have died. I'm sure many of my elf friends will get nasty surprises when they find they die about 50% faster - or worse.

If this is not bad enough, hail of stones now does nothing as well. I was in a room named 'A Rubble Pile' and another time in 'A Temple Basement' and on both occassions my hail of stones was 'feeble' and 'dealt no damage'.

Sure, I am highly peeved that my character has become nothing but a weak version of a wizard and I would love to whine about how I have no incentive to play since I cannot solo xp anymore and never was able to pk solo, but rather the main point to be made here, is that proper warnings need to issued, well in advance, before such drastic changes are so whimsically implemented.

I look forward to better lines of communication between immortals and players. I look forward to a time when things like this are thoroughly tested before being implemented and I look forward to a time when classes are balanced (a lot of work, I know, but there are better ways of going about the change).

Until then, I see little reason to dare play a character lest it be rendered useless overnight. If, however, you want help testing, open a testmud and do just that, before tinkering with the game. I'm sure many would be glad to offer their views and help do the testing. I think far fewer will be so glad if you destroy their characters in the game, first.

What is your point?
Is this a flame?
I have seen no bug-report, no post in general boards or anything mentioning your problem today till I got spammed and try to correct the issue.
Do you want to tell us to make no bug corrections? Is this why you are disapointed?
Because a bug correction is going to render your playing style and class useless?
Something somewhere something went awry and suddenly the game was running a bad code.
I and a group of others are not payed to do this job though we try to do our best.
So are you trying to backslap us for that?
I am pretty much positive about your motivations but pretty much disappointed by your non-constructive attitude.

waaaaaaahhhh look at me, I'm an elf that can bash, blind, and hit mightily and since Im not overpowered where no one can kill me anymore Im gonna whine
Get over it
I had the most powerful char in the game, rightfully so since I was the highest level, now hes not worth crap. Deal with it. Your race got smacked down to being balanced, ha, welcome to the club. Its part of playing the game, if we aren't evenly balanced, then everyone is gonna play a two handed axe wielding elf that can bash and blind and hit through over 200 defense.
No char is perfect and Im glad Im not that only one who has to accept that.

2004/12/12, 05:39, Gabriel:
ravesh doesn't use axes Ridley. Nor does he use singe. You spew such crap it's amazing. How about I post what everyone on this mud is thinking about your arrogance and bullshit attitude. Shut it. You're such a sorry person. Personally, I think Ravesh has every right to make a point about what has now happened to his caster race. God forbid someone can hit through your defence. It's your type of shit attitude that wrecks the atmosphere on this mud. Do us all a favor and shut your mouth.

There are going to be alot of changes going on as we correct alot of long standing bugs and try to add/fix new skills and balance classes out. Yes, at moment druids are weak versions of mages. Wardancers are low hp warriors with barkskin and refresh, etc etc. I don't know what to tell you other then please have some patience, we are doing our best to do what we can. What would be appreciated are sugestions on how to make your favorite class more enjoyable in a rpish and not overpowering way. Things to make a druid more druidish then a second rate mage in Ravesh's case. Sound reasonable?

2004/12/12, 11:34, Lomme:
Mkay Ridley, the fact that you got asswiped by me *an elf*, doesn't make Ravesh overpowered :p, cause I was the one who wielded axe, and hit through your 200 or whatever defence, and yes I use singe too, for a mere 8 sec blind:)

Alright - I apologise for the post seeming to be some sort of flame, and perhaps this was the not the place to voice it. However, I was not aware that it was a bug. I thought, perhaps incorrectly, that it was an intended change and I was mostly annoyed because it was overnight with no warning and perhaps I was also embarassed at mobbing a newbie when such a thing should never have happened.

I am aware that there is a lot of work to be done regarding the classes and I'm certainly not trying to 'backslap' - the inordinate about of work is greatly appreciated, but I have noticed that generally a lot of things are changing without much warning or discussion beforehand and I'm hoping this can be avoided. Moreover, that the players, who know their classes so intimately, are invited for some kind of testing before things are implemented.

And.. uh, Ridley.. no, wait, I'll just ignore that.

Boy if you guys are upset with Ravesh's comments, then wowsers. That was as clean and polite of a post I've seen. What I wonder about is making all these changes without the use of the testmud and all that. There was discussion in the last week about how you all wanted player imput, and we were going to thoroughly test items before implementation. What happened? So, actually in thinking about it, if you know Druids are a weak version of mages, and Wardancers are dependent on barkskin to be even decent warriors, why make those changes first? Why not have the solutions for the races prior to imping these negatives? I'm talking about pk now, just xp. We've gone out of our way to make it *harder* to xp with the lower skilled races/classes atm? I'd just like the philosophy of what we are doing here. This, btw, is NOT a flame. I'm not upset with the code changes, I just don't understand what is going on.

2004/12/15, 00:08, Slaanesh:
Well, if something is a bug, and it gets fixed, that's not really a change is it? It's the correction of something that wasn't working properly and got changed to what it should have. It was a bug that barkskin and heavy metal combined to make druids supertanks. Congrats on several players finding that bug and using it to their advantages until it was fixed. Now that is has been though I can't see reasons to complain. It wasn't the main focus and never has been.

I realize alot of classes need work, thats what we are working on. As I said earlier, posts suggesting skills to help a class are alot more helpful at the moment then ones thats say this sucks change it (not saying Ravesh did that).

2004/12/15, 00:36, Sigmar:
All this was about a mistake that untested development-code somehow got into our compiled work version. This is bad, but it won't be the last time. So really ... I hope it won't evolve into a crisis each time this happens :)
