" Soundwave spell " (Ulric)back

Ok here it is my 'soundwave' spell idea
Class: Goblin spiritualist
Elements: Spirit, Air
Manacost: 30+/-10
Damage: Physical [ not absorbed by normal armours, only magical]
Stats afecting: Wil,Spi,(Int?- to channel the wave to material world inteligently)
I can't come up with exact damage and casting time formulas because I have not seen
any and I do not know how they look like.

The spell:

Goblin spiritualist using his powers reaches the spiritual world seeking for the spirits exisiting there and using his force of will to force the spirits there to shriek. Then channeling this innatural shriek to the material world he causes a terrible soundwave damaging all in the room.

Special effects:
When casting this spell goblin spiritualist will have his eyes closed and will be in trance... this is the main malus of this spell- he will be blinded during the casting delay.

Factors affecting the spell:
WIL:The higher the will of the spiritualist the more powerfull the shriek of the spirits will be, resulting in more powerful soundwave.
Corpses in the room: The more recent (more fresh decay timer ) corpses in the room
the better chance to find spirits in the underworld, resulting in shorter casting time.

Spell messages:
1.(tochar)You close your eyes and start the incantations, trying to reach the spiritual world...
1.(toroom) $n closes his eyes and begins some strange incantations ...
...1/4 delay
2. (tochar) You reach the spiritual world seeking for the spirits ...
...1/2 delay (affected by the corpses in the room, so it can be shortened a bit)
3.You find the everlasting spirits and writhe their souls causing them to shriek madly...
...1/4 delay
4.As you open your eyes you channel the shriek to the physical world causing a terrible soundwave!
4.(toroom) As $n opens his eyes a terrible soundwave appears out of nowhere striking all on its path!

Messages when hit:
$n is struck by the soundwave!

Message when goblin spiritualist hit while delay:
A pain breaks your concentration and makes you go back abruptly to the material world.

Afterwords:
I am not quite sure if it should be memorizable. For the playability I think it should, as the memorize allows to keep concentration while being hit.
I leave the damage formulas and damage quantity for the development to the person who keeps the balance in the game.
If I missed something feel free to blame me :)

Ah i forgot message (tochar) while being hit, so it is :
You are struck by the soundwave! :)

Well maybe the spell should have some shortlasting stun effect depending on the targets test. The formula would be (end+wil)/1,5 chance to avoid the stun effect.

(toroom): $n seems to be stunned!
(tochar): You feel dizzy. (or smth like that, i bet you can come out with better ones)

I like it. But how long would it take to cast it?

2004/12/04, 15:24, Fluff:
A several message spell! Its a first time for everything :P

I dont know how to write the casting formula ... but it should not be a quick spell ...
so delay should be something like pyre+something...
I leave it for Tzeentch or Thanquol to judge ...

Now it looks better :)
My remarks:
- Damage: should be dodgeable, a fast person perhaps should be able to react fast and drop himself to the ground taking less damage. With 30 mana 80 damage *unabsorbed* should be the max. Another point is shall the spell start_fight once casted? I would say yes.
- Casting time: max should depend: wil of caster, spell %, corpses in the room. I believe as a total 6-7 secs in max efficiency?
- Stun effect: nowadays this is very much favored :) If the spell is absorbable or dodgeable you can also put some stun effect oki.
- Malus for caster: caster being blind for the 6-7 secs is peanuts btw, 6-7 secs is like 1-2 damage turns, having in these turns some dodge and parry malus is peanuts. Remember blizzard, for the complete 10 secs the caster is basically paralyzed, but blizzard does more damage but blizzard can also be absorbed. Therefore this malus being so low I would still point to a low damage for this spell.

If you can not come up with formulas, at least you can give a relative approach based on the existing spells of this class and of other classes too :) Formulas without considering the rest of the game mechanics can always cause a spell to be overrated or underrated.

Q: Does the spiritualist needs this spell?

2004/12/05, 13:29, Ulric:
To Morr:
-Damage: I dont think the damage should be dodgeable, the soundwave is fast, has a speed over 1000 km/h, so nobody is able to react that fast to drop to the ground even... and yes i think the damage should involve caster into fight. Maybe the damage should have wide spectrum like 40-80 so in average it will be around 60.
-Casting time: 1 sec first delay...2-4 sec sec delay depending on corpses and 1 sec third delay on max efficiency ...
-Stun effect: Notice that with the formula i pointed the stun effect has a very low chance to work.
- Blind is not a peanuts i think, if it lowers the defence te caster has lower chance to finish the spell + the situation in the room can change dramatically during the delay, imagine 3 enemies enetring and one starting a bash on spiritualist, he can be virtually dead.

Answer: Someone said the more spell ideas the better :) In my personal opinion some area effects spells are needed for greenskins ...

Sounds Pretty good as is keeping in theme of Spiritualists though i think it should hurt spellcasters more as they would be more accustomed to be hearing the voice of spirits.
