Since there has been talk about Altdorf for a while, I'd like to put in a few ideas about how I think the city could become more interesting than it is now. Before I present my ideas, I have to warn that I have no idea about visions, plans or warhammerishness when the city was built. I.e. I am not sure if there is an overall plan for many of the things that are in it, or if it was just put together randomly. Was it made after an existing map or just made up by different people making different parts? My vision for Altdorf is a living city where there can be a lot of adventure, not just some place where you practice, buy stuff and rent. So I will come with a few ideas that could improve the city:
Clearly different parts of town: What i mean by this is that in most cities there should be some kind of division between different areas in the town. For example, there could be shadier parts of town, where poor people, rogues etc hang out and that are more seldomly patrolled by city-guards. Richer parts where merchant houses are situated, where aristocrats live etc. This is pretty basic I guess, and there are allready different parts of the city, but I would like this to affect things more. If there is added a newbie-village for whities, certain parts of the city could definately be dangerous without having 100 newbies mobripping at once. Justice would also vary, in some parts it would be difficult to do any wrong without being caught and vice verca.
Time: At night, some neighborhoods should be dangerous, and a different side of the city should be visible. Maybe mobs could be programmed to move around and be at certain places at different times, there should be less people out at night, and more at day, and different. Also, guard patrols should be less frequent and shady people more frequent. Some shops may only be open at night and vice versa. Atmosphere creating messages could show that as the clock strikes six, people begin to move homewards and the street feel more deserted etc.
Quests: In a large and vibrant city the possibilities for small or large quests where players can gain exp, money etc. and have a lot of fun should be almost endless, especially for rogue-type players.
One last thing; at present, it is not possible to enter the city if your align is below good. This seems like a very short-term solution for preventing players to just kill good mobs. I can't imagine the gate guards having some kind of align-sensor or that only 'good' people could be in the town. I presume that this will change when a working justice system is put to work. I think it's kind of sad if only 'good' type players are allowed since this constrains a lot of the possible quests and variations that are possible for players on the mud. We could still prohibit same-side pk. |
