We _could_ periodically (weekly, monthly, yearly, ..) hold certain events. For instance deathmatch in a 10x10 room area or everyone starting at level one and who can get highest in one hour or seek-and-hide. Or any other stuff like this.
I am looking for event ideas. This was just a quick idea and I am not saying we will definitly do this! |

w00t! yay! |

Events would be pretty cool. Preferably ones that can be held within the frames of the game without having to set up a separate game (like the deathmatch would kind of require).
Although, setting up a temporary test-warp and having a deathmatch on there now and then might be kind of cool too ;) |

Sounds like party to me! Any chance of a reward for the victors or would it be purely just for fun? |

I think it should only be for the fun factor. Of course I am open for discussion. |

It would be cool if we had some kinda deathmatch arena, like 25x25 rooms or so, and once in a month, people could require to get transferred to it, and test their skills in a one on one fight with other players, of any race or level. Ofcourse this would need the 'victim' to accept the challenge. When they get to the arena, they would be stripped of all their eq, and be given some eq that the challenger have chosen. They will both get the same eq i guess, since it could be pretty unfair if they didn't. There would also be some additional options, like the use of certain spells, skills or styles while in the arena. The winner would gain points that are visible only on a scoreboard that can be seen at the arena, and maybe the dude with most score at the end of each 3 months could get some reward. Other people could be transferred to the arena as spectators, being able to have some kind of 'snoop' command for the moment...Dunno really, just some quick thoughts =) |

25*25?
That's 625 rooms ;) Nice size on an arena! You want to desc it? ;) |
2004/10/11, 20:57, Axel:
I do not think it really needs to be desced. But 25*25 seems a little large indeed. Remember our test-zone was 'only' 10*10. Actually the test-zone would be perfect for that. |

Aye... 3 teams capture the flag! woo hoo!
no mobs though please! |
2004/10/11, 21:27, Axel:
CTF does not seem applicable though. People would just grab the flag, run and that is it. But feel free to work out an idea how to adapt it. (No, we will not implement rocket-launcher or railgun!)
Maybe team fortress could be more of an option. Actually now thinking of it ... :) |

For some reason I managed to remove this thread - due to some link which I did set wrong. Everything should be ok now. |

Well ofcourse i didn't mean 626 rooms. Did i never tell you i am very bad at math? *BONK* Maybe some 8x8 would be better =P |

how about a 6X 6 room for Badmitten? |
2004/11/03, 12:57, Alan:
well why would they just run with the flag. the area would be small. like max 50-75 rooms perhaps less. lot of bottlenecks. maximum open space would be perhaps 2x2 or 2x3 hall or so. and you have to take enemies flag with your own flag to your base to score. there can be nice 3 side tournaments. in any case in such team events follow command should be disabled imo otherwise it would be just group vs group action. no matter what the setting is. ctf, team fortress whatever. plus there should be random spawn points also :P there could be ctf, team fortress, last man standing and so on, so on. just implementing it will be pain in the arse i bet. but you could have special altered code of warp for such events which you start on those special days.
ahh and there could be some quest like events also. go there get that. then combine x with y and then conquer some place... or so :P. |

with current playerbase it would be alot of work for very little gain imo. although events are a good idea, if we had larger playerbase. Could perhaps have events on predetermined dates, announced a way ahead, so that people could log in that day of curiosity.
I don't think we should waste alot of time hardcoding any events tho... it should rather be quests of some sort, with an immo /switching to deal out the quest, and maybe an unique mob loading only for this occasion will roam the lands. (a chaos demon of some sort) - Daem |

I am more for a 'quest system' run by immortals.
A very simple idea, make a skaven warord with a few stormvermins aside. Get a few players and try to attack some the Fort. At the same time have a 2nd party coming from Altdorf. Have inside Altdorf a group of skaven coming out of the sewers. Have a slayer group running berserk around highlands near orc swamps. Have a few Knights of Blazing Sun try to rescue a captive from Orc Swamps. This kind of 'immo controlled quests' can give some 'equipment' benefits + solve a few riddles (you can put notices, carvings inform of keydescs etc in rooms and have a bit of RP going on. You do not need to hardcode this kind of stuff. I did it we did it in n muds and if you have 10-20 players it is hell alot of fun. And it attracks hell alot of people + it consolidates the game atmosphere. The only point like Taal also states: player base :) I can gladly provide some 'quest rules' which I wrote some 10 years back and define the guidelines/rules/benefits/todos and not todos of such things btw. |
